If you look closely at this picture you will notice Max’s neck still bleeding and raw. He was rescued off a property of 10 dogs, tied up, in dismal conditions and suffering from every kind of disease imaginable. Two of the dogs died within days of being rescued. Max was on the brink of death, his neck wound infected after a metal chain rusted around his neck during the monsoon rains in Mexico.
That day was really the start of Furcademy.com in a lot of ways. During the last 7 years of dog ownership I have learnt an immeasurable amount of things, mostly out of necessity.
Max suffered (and is still prone to) severe dog aggression due to his previous exposure to abuse and other stressful environments, people aggression and a general nervous disposition.
A month after beginning my foster (fail) with him, Nena joined our family. She came from the same property but had a very different disposition. A Wiener Dog, Beagle Mix, she is a scent hound through and through and all she’s ever really wanted was food.
So while Max needed me to be a firm leader that took the responsibilities of the world off his shoulders, Nena needed a disciplinarian that kept her from eating herself to death and getting lost following her nose.

It took a while but I have had to learn how to communicate with my dogs in a way THEY understand and create a relationship that makes both of us happy.
Over time more and more resources became available to make it easier to become a good dog parent but I feel there is still space and a need for more information regarding dog ownership, training, tools and other things.
Furcademy is meant to help you understand your dog better, understand the tools at your disposal better and to understand yourself better, so that you can enjoy the incredible bond a well adjusted healthy dog brings you.
After 7 years Max and Nena don’t remember those old days anymore, and are able to live a life of exercise, freedom and enjoyment. We hope to help you and your pup to have the same.
With Love,
Max, Nena and Mom
